Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to use TheStartupsHub, including people who rely on assistive technology. Accessibility is part of how we build, not an afterthought.
Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA as a working standard across the platform. Accessibility is an ongoing effort, and we keep improving as the product grows.
What we have built in
- Semantic, structured HTML with clear headings and landmarks.
- Keyboard support for interactive elements, including the ecosystem map and the flywheel, with visible focus.
- Labels and descriptions for controls, images and icons that convey meaning.
- Live regions so dynamic updates are announced to screen readers.
- Respect for the reduce-motion setting: animations are calmed or replaced with a static view.
- Colour choices and text sizes chosen with contrast and readability in mind.
- Layouts that respond to mobile, tablet and desktop, and to zoom.
Using your own settings
The site works with browser and system accessibility settings. You can zoom in, increase text size, and turn on reduced motion or high-contrast modes, and the layout will adapt.
Known limitations
Some of the richer interactive pieces, like the draggable flywheel, are visual by nature. We provide keyboard and screen-reader friendly alternatives for the core meaning, but the full visual experience is best on a pointer device. We are actively improving these areas.
Tell us what to fix
If you hit a barrier or something is hard to use with assistive technology, please tell us. Your feedback genuinely helps. Email [email protected] with the page and what happened, and we will work to put it right.
